Starting October 15, YouTube will allow content creators to upload Shorts up to three minutes long. This update comes with an additional feature, “Show Less Shorts,” which lets users control the number of short videos appearing in their feed.
A Response to User Feedback
According to The Verge, many users requested an increase in the length of Shorts, finding the previous one-minute limit insufficient for expressing their ideas. By extending the maximum duration, YouTube aims to provide creators with more flexibility. TikTok, a major competitor, has already increased its video limit to 10 minutes, with gradual expansions over time.
New Templates for Easy Content Creation
In addition to the length update, YouTube has introduced a new feature that allows creators to use pre-made templates for Shorts, notes NIX Solutions. This function lets users sync their clips with popular soundtracks from other videos. The “Remix” button provides easy access to these templates, offering a feature similar to TikTok’s preset video styles and Instagram’s Reels.
Despite the focus on Shorts, YouTube remains committed to supporting long-form videos, for which the platform is well-known. The “Show Less Shorts” option ensures users can still prioritize long-format content. We’ll keep you updated as more features roll out.
