Google has updated the Gemini artificial intelligence tools in Gmail, now enabling the AI to assist users in refining drafts of emails they have already written. The newly added features, including “Writing Assistance,” “Formality,” and “Polish,” aim to provide users with a more streamlined and efficient email drafting experience.
Improved Visibility and Accessibility
To ensure users are aware of the new features, Google has integrated shortcuts to these tools directly into the email composition interface, both in the Android and iOS apps. This integration allows users to easily access and utilize the Gemini AI-powered enhancements.
Gemini’s Capabilities: From Drafting to Refinement
The Gemini AI tools within Gmail offer a wide range of functionalities. Users subscribed to Google One AI Premium or those who have purchased the Gemini add-on in Workspace can now leverage these features. When composing an email, users will notice the “Writing Assistance” shortcut, which, when clicked, allows Gemini to generate a draft email on its own. Furthermore, once the user has typed more than 12 words in the draft, a “Polish my draft” feature becomes available, allowing them to refine and enhance the text.
Streamlining the Editing Process
The Gemini AI tool also offers users the ability to swipe their thumb across the text, which then presents them with a selection of options, including “Revise,” “Formalize,” “Supplement,” or “Shorten.” This feature enables users to quickly and efficiently refine their email drafts, ensuring they meet their desired tone and style. Additionally, if the “Revise my draft” shortcut is not visible, users can access this functionality by pressing the button with the pencil icon.
Gemini’s capabilities extend beyond simple refinement; the AI tool can also completely rewrite a draft email if needed, adds NIX Solutions. This feature allows users to generate new versions of their emails, ensuring they convey their message effectively and professionally.
