Apple appears to be developing a feature for iPhones that will display an estimated time for full charging. This addition was identified in code found by 9to5Mac within the latest iOS 18.2 beta, pointing to a new “BatteryIntelligence” framework. This framework is expected to allow the system to predict when charging will complete, which could enhance the user experience by providing more precise information on charging time.
Battery Health Enhancements in iOS 18
This potential charging-time estimation feature builds on the battery health improvements introduced with iOS 18. The current version of iOS already offers options to limit the maximum charge capacity to levels such as 80%, 85%, 90%, or 95%, all aimed at prolonging battery health over time. NIX Solutions adds that iOS 18 now notifies users if their iPhone is charging slower than usual due to a less-than-optimal charger. This expanded focus on battery management indicates Apple’s commitment to helping users maintain battery longevity.
Beta Testing and Release Schedule
At this stage, it’s unclear if the new charging-time feature will be included in the final release or added in a future update. Apple is actively testing the iOS 18.2 beta with developers, and the official release is anticipated for early December. We’ll keep you updated on any developments regarding this feature and its availability in upcoming updates.
