NIX Solutions: Gemini Will Soon Support Video Uploads

Google’s Gemini chatbot is preparing to support video file uploads as part of its file upload and analysis capabilities. An analysis of a recent preview version of the app reveals which video formats may be supported when the feature becomes generally available.

Currently, Gemini allows users to upload various types of files and ask questions about them. These include documents, code files, simple text, presentations, spreadsheets, and other formats with tabular data. In addition, the chatbot can be used to analyze content from web pages and YouTube videos. However, direct uploads of video files are not yet available.

In version 16.13.38 beta of the Google app, Android Authority journalists discovered strings in the code suggesting that Gemini will soon support uploading video files in several formats. These include 3GP, AVI, FLV, MOV, MP4, MPEG, MPG, and WebM. Furthermore, additional code hints that users may be able to upload multiple video files for analysis at once. While the total video length will be subject to limits, these restrictions are expected to differ between users of the free and paid versions of the service.

Expansion to GitHub Repository Analysis

Alongside support for video files, Gemini’s data upload and analysis capabilities are set to expand to include GitHub repositories. This feature could simplify the process of analyzing code hosted on GitHub, making the chatbot even more versatile for developers and technical users.

At this time, neither video upload nor GitHub repository support is active in the current beta version, notes NIX Solutions. Google has also not issued any official statements or timelines regarding these upcoming features. Yet we’ll keep you updated as more integrations become available or as new developments emerge.

These changes point to broader efforts to enhance Gemini’s utility and flexibility across various content formats. While some of these features are still in development, the preview insights provide a useful look into what’s likely coming soon.
