NIX Solutions: Chinese Automakers Adopt DeepSeek AI

Software features of modern vehicles attract potential buyers no less than design or technical specifications. Recognizing this, Chinese automakers have begun actively integrating chatbots based on DeepSeek language models into their vehicle software infrastructure. Leading brands such as Dongfeng, GAC, and BYD have already taken steps in this direction.

As reported by Nikkei Asian Review, Dongfeng Motor now supports the large language model DeepSeek R1 within the multimedia system of Zhiyin crossovers under its Voyah brand. This functionality was introduced through an over-the-air update. Starting in April, larger models like the M-Hero 917 SUV, along with other vehicles from the Dongfeng lineup, will also receive similar AI capabilities.

Artificial intelligence in the car’s onboard electronics is not limited to voice assistants for dialogue with drivers and passengers. It also plays a role in assessing the environment and predicting driver intentions. BYD, a leader in China’s hybrid and electric vehicle market, has likewise announced its plans to incorporate DeepSeek’s solutions into its range of products.

GAC, Leapmotor, and SAIC Embrace AI Advancements

Several automakers are moving to integrate DeepSeek technology with their proprietary software platforms. One such company is GAC Group, which plans to enhance its Adigo Sense language assistant. This assistant will use the driver’s history of requests and actions to anticipate future behavior, optimize travel routes, and recommend entertainment options tailored to passengers’ preferences. GAC intends to roll out these features within the current half of the year.

Leapmotor is another example, aiming to combine DeepSeek models with Alibaba’s Qwen development. This collaboration is expected to enable the onboard system of Leapmotor cars to generate images. Similarly, SAIC plans to implement DeepSeek support in its IM Motors lineup, alongside solutions from Alibaba and ByteDance, notes NIX Solutions.

Imported Brands Join the Trend, Some Still Hold Back

Even imported brands in China are adopting DeepSeek support for their locally assembled models. For instance, the Nissan N7 electric vehicle, manufactured at a joint venture with Dongfeng, will feature DeepSeek integration. SAIC has also facilitated the adoption of DeepSeek in Buick and Cadillac vehicles produced domestically. These models will use DeepSeek technology in parallel with Baidu’s Ernie chatbot.

However, not all automakers have jumped on the DeepSeek bandwagon. Notably, Xiaomi and XPeng Motors have yet to implement such AI solutions. Yet we’ll keep you updated as more integrations become available.
