Google has announced a significant update to its AI assistant, NotebookLM. Audio Overviews and bot responses are now supported in over 50 languages. Previously, these features were only available in English. Users can now select their preferred language in the settings menu by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the interface.
This expansion allows users to create multilingual content and educational materials with greater ease, as reported by 9to5Google. For instance, a teacher can upload documents in Portuguese, Spanish, and English simultaneously, while students receive an audio summary of the main ideas in their native language. This can improve accessibility and learning outcomes for diverse groups of users across the globe.
Enhanced Accessibility Through AI Tools
NotebookLM Audio Overviews is a feature within the experimental NotebookLM app, which is based on Google’s artificial intelligence technologies. The app was originally designed to help users analyze and generate new ideas using their own documents. These can include PDFs, notes, or any other text-based materials.
With the new language support, the AI-powered assistant becomes more inclusive and useful for a broader audience. The added capability to listen to summaries and interact with bot responses in multiple languages enhances the utility of the tool in academic, creative, and professional environments. It’s especially beneficial for users working across linguistic boundaries or collaborating internationally.
The multilingual update has been in development since last month and is now rolling out to all NotebookLM users, adds NIX Solutions. While the audio narration feature was previously limited to English, this new release significantly extends its reach. We’ll keep you updated as more integrations become available or if Google introduces further improvements to the platform.
